Principals

Charles M. Pinckney, President & CEO

Charles M. Pinckney is responsible for the overall management and operation of Morrison Grove. Prior to this position, Mr. Pinckney was the Chief Operating Officer of Municipal Mortgage & Equity LLC (MuniMae) and Chief Executive Officer of MMA Realty Capital, a real estate finance company with assets of over $8.5 billion and assets under management of over $20 billion. Mr. Pinckney joined the Company in 2000 when MuniMae purchased White Hawk Capital, a business Mr. Pinckney co-founded with Nomura Securities and that was engaged in structured finance activities. Mr. Pinckney started his finance career at Bank of America and Citi Bank, where he was responsible for all municipal real estate financing. Mr. Pinckney received his undergraduate degree with honors from The Citadel and a Master’s in Business Administration from Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business.

James C. Barden, Managing Director

Mr. Barden has over 28 years of business experience, including C&I and real estate lending, underwriting and credit administration, commercial mortgage brokerage, and real estate sales. Prior to forming Morrison Grove in 1996, Mr. Barden worked as an independent contractor for First Union’s Capital Markets Group (now Wells Fargo Capital Markets). Previously, Mr. Barden served as Senior Vice President for Signet Bank (now Wachovia Bank) from 1990 to 1995, where his group managed a portfolio of commercial mortgages, construction loans and tax-exempt loans of more than $600 million. Prior to his tenure at Signet, Mr. Barden was a Vice President for Crestar Bank in Washington, DC (now SunTrust Bank) from 1987 to 1990. Mr. Barden is also an active real estate investor, has served on several local and regional charity and business boards, and currently serves on the Virginia Board of M&T Bank Corporation, an $80 billion bank headquartered in Buffalo, NY.

Mark H. Johnson, Chief Investment Officer

Mr. Johnson is responsible for overseeing the investment activity and risk management of Morrison Grove. Prior to joining Morrison Grove, Mr. Johnson was the Chief Capital Officer for MMA Realty Capital, a subsidiary of MuniMae responsible for all taxable investment activity. Before coming to MuniMae, Mr. Johnson was employed by Trinsic Technologies, a national voice and data technology enterprise as the company’s Secretary and Treasurer. During his tenure, the company completed its successful initial public offering in 1999 and subsequently raised over $200 million through both debt and equity transactions. Mr. Johnson has 26 years of experience in real estate lending and corporate finance, primarily in banking. At the time of his departure from banking in 1998 Mr. Johnson was the senior credit policy executive for Wachovia Bank in the Washington Baltimore area. Mr. Johnson has a B.A. from the University of Virginia and is a member of various non profit and charitable organizations.
